History

When you walk into SheShe Boutique and Gallery you will notice the attention to detail that takes this building back to turn of the century.  Sheree Frede was awarded in August 2006, The Preservation Award by Historic Montrose Downtown.  Sheree went down to the dirt and began the extraordinary transformation to give the building what could have been it’s original appearance.

In 1893, Sanborn Maps said this building had an iron clad front and housed a new and used furniture store, J. H. Rose, New and Second Hand Store.  In 1899 it became a meat store and in 1910 the McCoy and Conway Dry Goods business was listed here. 1922, T. L. Button had dry goods and shoes here. Then in 1939 blue prints were drawn and the building underwent a change to represent the Art Deco style. It would now house Montrose Finance Company. They used carrara glass for the front façade.

Various other businesses were here until Dex Walker opened Walker Art Studio, a photography shop, in 1963.  Walker’s son, Ben, joined the business and ran it until being bought out by Burt Hustad in 1978 to become Main Street Photography.

Sheree Frede purchased the building from Burt Hustad in 2004.  During construction many vintage photos and a 48 star American flag were recovered.  The flag now proudly hangs in the Boutique. Come view the beauty and enjoy the history.
